Project: Structurally Designed Retaining Boundary Wall near Burton Upon Trent

Earlier this year Industrial Contracting Services Ltd completed construction of a replacement retaining wall on a project near Burton Upon Trent. The client contacted us some time ago outlining the problem they had in that their existing split level retaining boundary wall was bowing out and was getting worse.

An added complication was that the wall had a public footpath on the other side. The client had already had an inspection carried out by a Structural Engineer who advised that the wall be taken down and a new wall be built to a structural design. The client sent us the structural repair design and we were successful in providing the client with the best value quote.

The project did take 2 weeks longer than the 8 weeks targeted for completion due to the difficulties encountered moving relatively large volumes of excavated and reinstatement materials up and down the 33m long wall and then getting it in position and properly installed behind the concrete element of the retaining wall. Mini Veyors and Power Wheelbarrows were used to move all materials out and into the project and all of the concrete was pumped in in 2 separate days.

The finished wall has a significant reinforced concrete base tied in to and cast with the vertical reinforced concrete core wall behind the brickwork. This provides a massively increased level of structural strength to resist the loads being imposed on it by the clients garden.

We also installed drainage connected to weep holes and free-draining fill material to the bottom of the back of the wall to stop any build-up of water behind the retaining wall.

The client is very happy with their new wall and gave positive feedback on the professionalism and experience of Industrial Contracting Services Ltd and their staff.
