Project: Deadmans Lane Car Park Works
Industrial Contracting Services Ltd successfully tendered for the resurfacing works at Deadman’s Lane Car Park in Derby.
The project comprised of removing an existing footpath and hardstanding to increase the footprint of the carpark. Installation of protection measures around 3 trees. Installing various drainage and ducting inspection chambers and ducting for the installation of an electronic access barrier at a later date.
Additional drainage was installed and the existing drainage had to altered to improve the drainage and reduce puddling.
Finally a new machine laid macadam surface was installed and a new parking bay design was temporarily installed to test the effectiveness of the new layout in providing additional parking spaces. The temporary marking was in place for a few weeks before being permanently lined.
It was the client’s requirement that we undertook the works during the Half term period to cause the least disruption to the client’s operations giving us a time scale of 7 days for a 10-day planned project.
To add to the tight timelines the project was hit with the addition of Storm Dennis resulting in very strong winds and heavy rain, but against the odds our own 2 man team headed by our Site Supervisor and supported by our Preferred Surfacing Sub Contractor successfully completed the job on time and within budget.
Due to the rain we were also able to demonstrate to our Client that the new drainage and surface worked well and the puddles have gone allowing all of the car park to be utilised. This and the new parking bay layout has effectively increased the number of spaces in the car park by 12% without increasing the car park area.
