Project: IASTI Building
ICS recently carried out the supply and fix of brick slip works to the above project on behalf of DJ Swallow and GF Tomlinsons.
The project was the construction of a state of the art Education Facility for the aerospace industry providing next level high tech training and accommodates a full sized Airbus 318 (transported from France) for enhanced hands on training as well as lecture theatres and engineering workshops.
The building is one of only 2 facilities of its kind in the United Kingdom.
Whilst the majority of the construction is traditional facing brickwork the unique design and shape of the building facilitated a requirement for a lighter solution to the focal point of the building a triangular façade and soffit.
ICS installed a brick slip solution using the same bricks as the main façade fixed back on to a horizontal carrier rail that has resulted in a visually striking entrance elevation to the building that when installed exceeded both the architects and clients expectations.
The challenge on the scheme was the external angle where slips from 3 different directions all met at the focal point meaning each and every slip has a slightly different cut and angle on it to achieve the raking wall so crucial to the building aesthetics.
The success of the building was heavily dependant upon the collaborative approach from ICS the main contractor and the project architect which involved numerous design meetings and sample panels being installed before the main works to try and eliminate any potential issues during the construction process.
Our client confirmed that the project was shortlisted for the prestigious National Brick Awards.
